MIAMI - Tabacalera Perdomo S.A. today formally announced that third-generation Cuban cigar maker Nick Perdomo, Jr. will unveil an ultra-premium cigar line at the 2003 RTDA Exhibition to be held in Nashville from August 3 - 6 at the Opryland complex. Christened EDICIÓN de SILVIO^® the new, highly limited Estate Selección^® extension is hailed as the "crown jewel" of Perdomo's family of cigar brands and made as a tribute to honor the memory of Nick Perdomo Jr.'s late grandfather and mentor, Silvio Perdomo. Nick, Jr., who declined to disclose the origin of the secretive blend, declared the tobacco lends "a new and thrilling flavor characteristic that my father says reminds him of how 'real Cuban cigars' were made before 1959. It is a work of love for my father and I - and the finest cigar I've ever had the pleasure to experience."

The mysterious all-Cuban seed tobaccos, cultivated into a binder and filler crop which Perdomo and grandfather Silvio began aging before his passing in 1996, have been exclusively fermented in large wooden "bins" that were specially created by using Spanish cedar and 50+ -year old vintage oak casks. The thick, time-honored vessels were discovered by Silvio and Nick, Jr. during their many journeys to Jalapa and obtained from a family that had owned a plantation there for processing and fermenting tobacco until the Sandanista revolution in 1979. Hidden in a heavily guarded aging barn on the outskirts of Esteli, these special "bins" were used to house the special tobaccos created for EDICIÓN de SILVIO^® under the explicit guidance of only three men: Silvio Perdomo, his son Nick Perdomo Sr. and grandson Nick Perdomo, Jr. "These aging bins were the brainchild of my grandfather and lend an unbelievably smooth quality and rich texture and taste to the cigar," stated Nick, Jr. Due to the conservative yield of the original harvest and the painstaking, scrupulous selection of only the finest tobaccos from that harvest, final production is forecasted to be limited to only 25,000 cigars. Only five of the factory's most elite torcedors are permitted to handcraft the commemorative new brand.

According to Perdomo, EDICIÓN de SILVIO^® is a smoking experience that yields an impressive, robust taste with an undercurrent of delicate and complex tones. "This cigar is a blend of exacting proportions of viso, ligero and seco tobaccos that my grandfather would have loved," recalled Nick, Jr. "He told me this specific blend is a fusion of strength and compassion - which are qualities of not only a good cigar, but also of a good and God-fearing man. My grandfather was a wonderful man, a respected cigar artisan and a hero to me and my father. As this was our last collaboration together, I'm reminded that we owe everything we are to him."

EDICIÓN de SILVIO^® is fastidiously handcrafted in reverence to Silvio Perdomo's most cherished vitolas: the "Robusto" (5" x 54); "Double Corona" (7 5/8" x 50) and "No. 2 Torpedo" (6 1/8" x 54). Fifty of each size is delicately stocked in a slide-top, perforated Spanish cedar caché surrounded by and continuously exposed to the boldly fragrant shavings of a 120-year old Spanish cedar tree. These shavings are industriously hand-carved from the rich oily heartwood of the tree, infusing a delicate aroma and a distinctively elegant finish to each and every cigar. The cigar caché and Spanish cedar shavings are then concealed under lock and key within a rustic "Spanish Galleon" tobacco chest. This highly sought, limited production cigar retails between $17.50 and $25.00 per cigar.
